Summer Wardrobe Edit

23.6.14

Today I thought I'd share some of my summer wardrobe staples. These are pieces that I'll mix and match with other pieces in my wardrobe all summer long. They're versatile and effortless, and a mix of new and old. Read on for all of the details.

Dress - Madewell, Pants - J. Crew
It took me ages to find a striped dress that I loved. Of many styles I tried on, they were either too short, too tight, didn't fit nicely, or were outrageously expensive (I'm looking at you Alexander Wang). I finally settled on this one from Madewell. I love the thick fabric and the zipper that goes all the way up the back.

Another summer staple are these slouchy drawstring pants I picked up on sale from J. Crew last summer. The crepe material is lightweight and breezy, and they can be either dressed up for work or dressed down for a casual night out.

Shorts - Rachel Rachel Roy (old, similar), Skirt - Club Monaco

While I haven't boarded the boyfriend jean train just yet, I do love me some boyfriend shorts. I found this distressed pair from Rachel Roy on sale at The Bay last summer (they were only $22! I couldn't believe it!). The only time I'm not wearing these shorts during the summer is when they're in the wash.

I actually picked up this neutral circle skirt back in February, and have gotten quite a bit of wear out of it since. But I'm looking forward to getting even more wear out of it during the summer months. It's a neutral peachy-blush colour, so it goes with almost anything. The leather trim on the bottom adds just the right amount of edge to the look.

Bomber jacket - Anthropologie (sold out, similar), Shirt - Anthropologie
I can't seem to get enough chambray into my closet. Since denim jacket's have always been a little too boxy on my small figure, this chambray bomber jacket was a great find. I also love layering a chambray shirt over summer wear when the sun goes down. Both of these pieces are by Cloth & Stone (available at Anthropologie), who make the best chambray pieces ever. I have a shirt in almost every colour.

Tank - Club Monaco, Tee - Popbasic
You can't go wrong in the summer with a black tank or a white T-shirt. The tank can be worn with pretty much everything, and I love the leather detailing.

I've decided that Popbasic make the best T-shirts. They're so soft, the perfect shape, and a nice thickness. I also have one in grey, and they're planning on releasing a permanent range of tees later on this year.

Scarf - Popbasic, Bag - Old Navy

Let's talk accessories, shall we? Bucket bags are all the rage this season, and this one from Old Navy was an absolute steal at only $25.

Even though our summers in Montreal can be scorching once the humidity gets up there, the nights can get cool once the sun does down. This lightweight infinity scarf, also from Popbasic, is great to throw on with anything from shorts and a tee, to a classier dress.

Shoes - Aldo (on sale!), Hat - Anthropologie
I'm not a huge fan of sandals (other than my trusty flip flops), so these cutout oxfords are a nice alternative. A neutral color and breezy in the summer heat.

Last piece that I'll be reaching for all summer is this straw rancher hat I picked up from Anthropologie. I spend a lot of time in the sun in the summer, and try to avoid getting too much sun on my face. Not gonna lie, I've been wearing this baby around the house because I love it so much. No shame.

So these are my summer staples (other than the obvious bathing suits and cover-ups, which I seem to live in on the weekends). If you liked the tee and scarf, check out Popbasic for more micro collections. I've seen some sneak peeks of the upcoming Jane collection and it looks fab (plus you can get $15 off your first order).

What are your favorite pieces for summer?

    1. Thanks Joelle! I did the pipe clothing rack at the same time as the shelves. I live in a 500 square foot shoebox, so any extra storage solutions are put into place immediately haha
