Happy Hour - Amaretto Sours

It's cocktail hour here on the blog today! While I love my scotch, I can't deny myself a good cocktail either. Mixology seems to have become an art form these days, with new concoctions being created at every bar in town. The gals over at A Beautiful Mess are my fave when it comes to happy hour, and are always a good start when looking for some inspiration. To kick things off, a simple but a good'un. Read on for full instructions!

I love amaretto sours. They're my go too drink when I just can't make up my mind, but I do prefer to make my own as I like them more on the sour than sweet side. These are always best when made with a proper sour mix, but unless I'm having people over, it's too much to whip up just for one. Don't worry, plain old lemon juice and sugar works just fine on the spot as well.

- 1 1/2 oz. Amaretto
- 1/2 oz. Lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp. Sugar

In an empty cocktail shaker, mix the lemon juice and sugar. I add just a smidge less than 1/2 tsp. of sugar (definitely not a rounded measuring spoon). Like I said, I prefer slightly more sour than sweet. Once the sugar is dissolved into the lemon juice, add some ice cubes. Pour in your amaretto, seal the lid, and shake it up good. Strain into a tumbler, over ice or not, your choice. Done!

So easy right! It's just asking to be enjoyed on the patio after a day spent in the sun. Mixology is something I really enjoy, and when I first moved into my place and was furniture shopping I bought a mini bar cart right away. A girl's gotta have priorities right!
