Holiday 2015 - Simple Holiday OOTD

23.12.15

For most of my holiday parties this year, I kept things simple with a LBD, some statement jewelry and a bold, red lip. Sometimes simple is better! A LDB is a great, fuss-free option, and you can use a variation of the same outfit by switching up your jewelry and shoes.

Holiday 2015 - Holiday FOTD (+ some tips for going from day to your party at night!)

22.12.15

I love a good old classic look for the holiday season, with just a smidge of sparkle. I tend to always fall back on this, despite my intentions to create some super fancy look, because it's easy and simple. Keep reading for my favourite products for achieving the perfect classic, holiday look, and some tips on taking your look from day to party at night!

The Weekend Edit Vol. 61

20.12.15

It's official, we're less than a week away from Christmas! Eeeeeek!! Between coming back from Orlando this week, jumping right back into work, and all of the holiday parties, I've been busy!

This year's annual ALS/MND symposium was in Orlando, Florida, and so I took full advantage of our close proximity to Disney World to extend my trip to visit with my old pal Mickey Mouse. It had been a couple years since I'd been to Disney World, and as someone who consistently went every year growing up, my inner kid was unleashed and I had a blast! You can see some photos on Instagram.

This year's conference was a week later than it normally is, so it totally threw me off my schedule, and came back to Christmas party madness, and shopping left to be done. I'm thankful to have gotten to spend some time this week with friends before the holidays, including my soul sister Ariane. If you don't read her blog Julius + Valentina, you definitely need to check her out! This year she organized a holiday beauty drive to donate gift bags to local women's shelters in Montreal. I am so proud of her, and look forward to supporting her again next year. Read more about it here.

I've got a giant cake to finish for tonight's party (and don't judge me for watching Love Actually for a second time this weekend), so I'll leave you with some links to check out:

With all of the impending family time over the holidays, I'm going to be referring to this list of excuses for why I'm single :P

Love this hair tutorial for the holidays! Simple yet chic!

A piece on red lipstick.

Instagram husband. Probably the most epic video I've seen all year.

Lisa Eldridge released another incredible tutorial this week, with an Elizabeth Taylor transformation. I love this vintage, glam look!

I love Jimmy Fallon and the Roots, and this Star Wars A Cappella with the cast of Episode 7 is essentially what is keeping me sane until I see the movie this week.

And in case you're looking for some last minute gift ideas, check out my gift guides (here, here, and here), as well as my DIY gifts for the hostess.

Happy pre-Christmas Weekend!!

Holiday 2015 - Gift Guides For The Hostess

8.12.15

Giving gifts is one of my favourite parts of the holidays. I love the process of curating the perfect gift for each person on my list, no matter how big or small. For the longest time, I used to make a lot of homemade gifts. The process of making something during the holidays was so rewarding. Today, I still enjoy making gifts, and I think DIY gifts are a great option for the hostess. These 3 DIY gifts are super simple, and a great treat to bring to your holiday parties this year.

The Weekend Edit Vol. 60

29.11.15

Happy Sunday! What has everyone been up to this weekend? Anyone else in full on holiday mode? I am! I'm about halfway through Christmas shopping, and have my 1st holiday party coming up this week. And if you follow me on Snapchat (kristianasalmon), you'll know that I started baking my epic cake today. Yup, 4 days before the party. It's insanely good, and so worth it.

This weekend has been otherwise uneventful. It's the first weekend in a while that I've spent at my place, and not at the cottage, so I did some much needed tidying up. I also put up my couple of Christmas decorations and worked on some DIY gifts with my mum :). I've mostly managed to avoid any Black Friday shopping madness, as everything I wanted to get in the sales, I got pre-access codes (pretty awesome being loyal to certain brands). I did do some damage in the Aritzia sale though...and picked up yet another colour of my beloved Teigen dress.

Well, I'm off to run some errands before seeing a movie with my dad (less than a month until the Star Wars movie! Eeeeek! We're having our marathon next weekend!). Here are some fun links I've gathered up over the week:

There were a couple of months this year where I almost made a move to SF, so I found this article about the difference between SF and NYC funny. It seems like SF is way more up my alley than NYC (although both have limited closet space. boo.).

The truth behind Instagram photos. Yup! So true!

Legroom across various airlines. Maybe this is why I hate United so much.

8 cult beauty products, and thoughts on each. Now I have to refrain from picking some of these up!

If Mean Girls were set in 2015. *insert tears of joy emoji*

Anyone else watch Adele Live In London? I'm totally crushing over her new album. And the fact that she dressed up as herself/Jenny to trick impersonators was priceless!

And in case you missed it, I posted 3 holiday gift guides this week. Check them out here, here, and here.

Holiday 2015 - Stocking Stuffers

27.11.15

My final gift guide is here, and this one is all about the stocking stuffers! Happy shopping!!

Holiday 2015 - Gift Guide for the Traveller

25.11.15

I'm back with my second gift guide today, and this one is all about the traveller in your life! Check it out!

Holiday 2015 - Gift Guide for the Gal Who Has It All

23.11.15

Can anyone else believe that we're already more than halfway through November?!? Before we know it, the holidays will be upon us! While holiday posts pre-December may seem somewhat early, I wanted to get some gift guides out this week before Black Friday hits (in case you wanted to take advantage of some sales!). This gift guide has some ideas for the girl who has everything, and are some nice ideas just in general. Keep reading for all the details!

OOTD - A little bit 70s

10.11.15

What are your feelings on the 70s? I think the 60s may be more my thing (Sean Connery as James Bond, Jaguar E Types, The Beatles!), but I'm trying to embrace the current 70s fashion trend, even if just in a small way. While this dress may not scream 70s, add a floppy hat and some coppery eyeshadow, and we're about as close to the 70s as I'm going to get! Keep reading for more photos and outfit details.

The Weekend Edit Vol. 59

8.11.15

Hey there! Coming to you today from the comfort of my couch, which is a very nice feeling after the day I had yesterday. Ever show up to the airport for your flight, only to be told by the airline that they have you scheduled for tomorrow? Yet your itinerary says today? No? Well that's what happened to me yesterday! After much stressful waiting while the airline attendants worked some magic, they managed to get me out on yesterdays flight. I treated myself to a manicure during my layover after the ordeal (gotta say, the airport manicures aren't that bad!), and was very glad to sleep in my own bed last night.

All that aside, luckily I get over travel mishaps fairly easily (except perhaps the forever lost luggage of 2007 ordeal...that one still hurts), and have happy memories of my most recent business trip. Being at my current job for 4 years, this was my first time going to this particular conference and it was definitely one of the best ones ever. Hopping from pool to meetings to beach to work dinners (on the beach!) was pretty amazing, and although it was work I treated it somewhat like a well deserved mini vacation as well. Can't wait to be back at the Sandpearl Resort next year!

I'm going to get back to avoiding my laundry and unpacking, and if you're looking for a distraction as well, check out these links:

What beauty editors keep close at hand on their bedside tables.

If Snapchat existed in the 90s. This is hilarious!

As we head into winter here in Canada, I'm thinking of Spring trends! I'm excited for stripes (duh!), pyjama-inspired looks (yes!), and a new romantic vibe. What about you?

According to Hello Giggles, I used to be an extreme commuter. So grateful for my 20 minute public transit commute now.

Graphs about being an adult. Yup, pretty accurate!

Totally lusting over this adorable camera-shaped clutch from Kate Spade! Anyone looking for a Christmas gift idea for me? hehe

Happy weekend!

The Weekend Edit Vol. 58

25.10.15

I hope it's a wonderful fall day where you are...because it's cold and rainy here :(. I guess it's a great excuse to build a fire and snuggle up with a great book (on the last few chapters of The Martian!).

The next couple of weeks are going to be somewhat of a whirlwind, so guess what, I've started to work on Christmas shopping. Yup! Crazy huh? But between house sitting for my folks, a business trip to Tampa, and then a work retreat up north, we'll already be mid-November and it will be time to start making truffles and Christmas cookies before I jet off to an annual conference early December. Yikes! Good thing I got my new passport in the mail this week!

If you're stuck in some gloomy weather like me, check out these reads:

A list of 10 unusual beaches to visit. I've only ever been to #1, so I still have a lot to get to!

I'm a sucker for capsule wardrobes, and I really loved this Month of Outfits feature from Goop!

A round up of the Top 5 tinted moisturizers. Is your favourite on there? My beloved (but alas, pricey) Chantecaille Just Skin is, but where's Glossier Skin Tint?!?

If Ryan Adams covering Taylor Swift's entire 1989 album wasn't amazing enough, then he interviewed her!

Grace Atwood is definitely one of my Instagram role models, and she did a great piece on her Instagram tips.

What are your plans this weekend?

#Brownmance! - Nudestix Brow Products

20.10.15

If you're a regular around these parts, you can probably tell by now that my love for Nudestix runs deep (see here and here). They're a fantastic brand, whose line is all about being easy and simple. Lucky for this jet-setting gal, as I'm always looking for innovative products to travel with. So when I found out that they were [finally!] releasing some brow products, saying I was excited is an understatement. With bold brows being in this season, this release couldn't have come at a more opportune time!

I've struggled with my brows for a couple of years now, and filling them in is the one thing I just can't leave the house without doing. While I dream of having Cara Delevigne brows, mine are sparse and appear barely there (although thankfully not too thin). So the first thing I noticed about the Nudestix Brow Stylus is that it's that the nib is the perfect size: not to small, but not so big that it overpower the size of my brows. It's extremely pigmented, has a great consistency, and the gel at the other end is a great bonus!

As for the Brow Wax, while it was a strange feeling to get used to at first, this clear setting wax is really great for getting your brows to stay in place! I prefer to use this over one of my other brow products (like my beloved Armani Brow Maestro!), so that the color does not budge all day.

If you're already a massive fan of Nudestix, then you definitely have to check out these new offerings, as they nicely round out their current line-up. And if you're a jetsetter like me, then these are a must for your travel arsenal!

Are you into bold brows this season? What's your favourite brow product?

-Kris

*Brow Stylus & Brow Wax sent to me courtesy of Nudestix. All opinions are 100% my own, and I would never endorse a product I didn't truly love.

The Weekend Edit Vol. 57

18.10.15

Happy weekend! Anybody else in the North afraid to go outside with the recent dip in temp? Seriously, what happened to the weather? The change was drastic!

I'm spending this [crisp] weekend in Toronto visiting my sister. Not going to lie, I'm super jealous of her awesome pad and it's location. Yesterday we hit up the ROM, some shops on Bloor, and my fave, WVRST, for supper and the Jays game. I also cooked her an entire lasagna to eat through this week, because let's face it, otherwise she might starve! I also made her and her roommate Gabriella's Coconut Cupcakes that are absolutely out of this world amazing (try them! They're super easy to make)! And today's plans consist of bundling up and braving the cold for blogger's day out with Joelle! YAY!

As much as I love all of my work travel to new places, it's a nice change to be able to take a quick weekend away to a city I love and know so well. Call me unadventurous for always hitting up the same places every time I'm here, but hey, they're favourites for a very good reason! (did I mention WVRST?)

Cozying it on up inside today? I rounded up some interesting links for you:

Loved this piece on 23 things I wish I knew at 23 by Hillary Kerr. Number 2 is so so true.

I never knew this was an actual theory, but now that it has a name, I'm a bit fan of the "Buy It For Life" Theory.

Cute DIY to spruce up a basic clutch! Love these super simple, quick DIYs.

I'm a big fan of Diane Kruger and her timeless look. You too? Then check out this beautiful piece on her.

From the amazing ladies over at A Beautiful Mess, 20 Halloween costume ideas. I so want to be a pineapple!

And one final one from ABM, this fall-inspired cocktail looks delish!

What are you up to this weekend?

Review - Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able Foundation + Under(cover) Primer

14.10.15

Recently, I've had a love hate relationship with foundation. While I've always been a fan of fuller coverage foundations, because of my uneven skin tone and acne scarring, I've never really liked the way they sat on my skin. I used the Hourglass Immaculate Foundation for aaaaages, but still found it somewhat heavy (it's still me go to for a more glam event though). I then fell in love with the Armani Maestro foundation due to lightweight feel, but ability to layer. But more recently, my skin has been loving super light bases, like my beloved Glossier Skin Tint.

When I heard about the new Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able Foundation concentrate, I knew I'd have to try it out, because it sounded like the best of both worlds: Lightweight + full coverage. I think I may have found my holy grail foundation!

The Weekend Edit Vol. 56

12.10.15

This edition of the Weekend Edit is coming to you a day late...why? Because technically it's still my weekend! I'd like to wish my Canadian friends a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, and hope you've eaten your weight in pie and turkey (I know I have!). I've spent the weekend out at the cottage with my folks, and my sister, who came home for the long weekend. We had our traditional hike to the top of the mountain, I've been baking up a storm, and there's been a fire in the fireplace every night.

What am I thankful for? Lots a of things, but to name a few: my family and friends who love me, my amazing job that lets me make a difference in the lives of others and brings me all over the world, having a space to call my own, and for all of the amazing people I've met through this space! (shout out to Joelle, Gabriella, Jasmin, and Randi!)

I'm going to go make myself another steaming cup of tea (although the weather is fab today), and dive into a new book. Check out these links if you're lazing around today as well!

I have very oily hair (this was very true), and I found this article on "training" your hair for less washes interesting.

Have you seen Taylor Swift on her tour? Take the quiz to find out which 1989 tour outfit you are. Cheesy, I know...but hey, I got the Shake It Off party dress! haha

Anna has me hooked on facial massage. It's weird...but amazing...but weird...but awesome. Try it!

I never really understood the Missed Connections section of CraigsList...but this one has gone viral over the pas couple of weeks! People are speculating its authenticity. Frankly, I don't care and enjoyed it for what it was: a beautiful piece of writing.

Can someone please lend me their child for Halloween? This is the BEST costume I'v ever seen! (on a side note, if you haven't seen The Martian yet, get your butt to the cinema ASAP! Best movie I've seen all year).

Happy Thanksgiving!

-Kris

Fall - Face Of The Day

8.10.15

I'll be the first to admit it, I get very lazy with my makeup routine during the summer months. My main goal is to make sure it all stays on my face in the humidity. So when the cooler weather starts to roll in, I'm ready to embrace a little extra oomph in my look. Maroon + copper is a super hot color duo right now, framed with some bold brows. Here's my interpretation of these trends!

Fall - Wardrobe Edit

6.10.15

There are so many amazing trends this Fall, it was really hard to choose which ones I wanted to add into my wardrobe. It's also a delicate balance between purchasing too many trendy pieces vs. classic pieces that wont go out of style. In the end, I decided to add mostly classic cuts, which lots of maroon, some gorgeous strappy shoes (I think I went slightly overboard on the shoes this season), and a small homage to the 70s.

The Weekend Edit Vol. 55

4.10.15

Where in the world has Kristiana been? The last couple weeks have been a whirlwind of overtime, business trips, and a nasty cold, which resulted in me being a little MIA around these parts.

I was having a wonderful business trip in Boston (where I was eating my weight in seafood), until I woke up the next morning stuffy, cold, and knowing I was running a fever. I managed to make it through the day with the help of my good friend DayQuil and a hot bath, but still wasn't feeling so hot by the time we flew home. Leaving the next day for a business trip to Ottawa did not help either.

Fast forward to mid-week this week, and I was finally feeling better. Longest. Cold. Ever. Needless to say that September came and went in a blink of an eye, and we're now chugging ahead into October. While I enjoy my travel, I'm kind of glad to not have any business trips planned for October as it will give me some time to recoup, renew my passport, and enjoy our fall weather.

So I've been taking it easy this weekend with copious amounts of hot tea. In case you're staying in as well, here are some fun links to check out:

I travel alone and lot for work, and R29 has some great tips for traveling solo.

A makeup artists tips for looking amazing in under 10 minutes. I need this.

Anyone else excited to check out H&M's beauty line? Here is a first look that has me wanting to try out the lipsticks!

I'm a sucker for those "100 years of __" videos, and here is one on wedding dresses.

This gal has limited styling options with her shorter hair, but in case you've got longer locks, check out a round up of all of Joelle's awesome hair tutorials!

It seems like fall is the season to experiment with capsule wardrobes, and Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup is giving a capsule wardrobe a go. Can't wait to follow her progress!

What have you been up to lately? Any fun plans this weekend?

Fall - 90s Lipstick Remix

28.9.15

While I mentioned in my Fall Mood Board post that the ombre lip is a trend I'm keen on trying this fall, I think I'm even more excited about the revival of the moody 90s lip. Deep berries and grungy neutrals are back in style and here are my top 5 picks for this season!

Fall - Mood Board

18.9.15

Fall. My favourite season. Cool mornings, warm days, layers, pumpkin everything, fallen leaves, blanket scarves, September Issues, Fashion Week and Fall fashion! The little mood board I put together this season highlights some of my favourite trends for both fashion and beauty.

Travel Guide - Oahu Top 10 Things To Do

14.9.15

It may have taken me a while, but I've finally finished going through and editing the hundreds of photos I took during my vacation to Oahu. This is my 2nd time on the beautiful island of Oahu in the last 12 months, so instead of my typical photo diary, I thought I'd put together my top 10 for this destination. Keep reading to see my top 10 must-do's on Oahu, as well as some general tips on vacationing in Hawaii at the end.

The Weekend Edit Vol. 54

6.9.15

Where has the time gone?!? We're already in September!! The last two weeks have been somewhat of a whirlwind, complete with moments of stress, success, late nights at the office, a busy social life (went to the launch of a great new burger place in the hood), a 24 hour business trip to Calgary, an accomplishment on an international level, and a mini mental breakdown in my boss' office over my workload. Phew. It's done, moving forward.

It feels like summer is coming to end with this final long weekend. Thankfully we have fantastic weather for it here in Montreal...although I wouldn't even think of spending it in Montreal so I'm out at the cottage until I absolutely have to leave. Labour Day weekend always feels like the final days of summer, even though the official beginning of Fall is still a couple weeks away. So I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend! And in case you want something to wind down with after a long day in the sun (in addition to your glass of wine), check out these links I've rounded up:

Karlie Kloss is seriously one of my heroes...but when I heard she was launching her own YouTube channel I was somewhat skeptical. I was worried that it would be too professionally edited. Instead, it lets her personality shine, and we get some awesome behind the scenes looks at her life. This video she did giving two young girls their chance to be Angels was just the cherry on top.

I'm very unsure as to what I want to do with my hair at the moment. It's currently in a lob-like stage, but I don't know if I should cut or let it grow. Loving the lived in look of these styles, but still can't make up my mind. Suggestions?

Loving these tips for hosting brunch on a budget, featuring my two favourite Vancouver bloggers! Mimosa bar? Yes please!

These Instagram rules are hilarious...and also slightly true. Whoops!

And in case you missed anything over on Love. Loft. Life. this week, I feature what will probably be my final summer #ootds

What are you up to this weekend?

OOTD - Heat Wave

3.9.15

Just as the nights started getting a bit cooler and September Issues started showing up on the stands, Mother Nature has thrown another heat wave our way here in Montreal. Great for the upcoming long weekend...not so great for my little, overworked air conditioning unit. In an attempt to stay cool, I'm keeping my hair off my neck and loving this lightweight midi tank dress. Keep reading for more photos and full outfit details!

OOTD: T-shirt dress + Lace-up sandals

1.9.15

While today may be the first day of September, Montreal is still in full summer mode with this week's heat wave. So, why not throw some final summer looks out there before transitioning into my Fall wardrobe! Don't get me wrong, I love the hot summer weather and will be sad to see it go, but Fall and its fashion is by far my favourite. Layers, blanket scarves, September Issues, and let's not forget the pumpkin spice lattes! Fall is all about transitions, and while this look may be for more fair weather, T-shirt dresses are definitely something that are going to feature heavily in my transitional wardrobe. Keep reading for more photos and full outfit details!

The Weekend Edit Vol. 53

23.8.15

Long time no chat! I've [unfortunately] settled back into reality this week, and I'll be honest, it's been rough. I miss the carefree lifestyle of Hawaii, and the sound of my alarm going off every morning is dreadful. So bear with me as I slowly ease back into things, and get through editing the hundreds of photos I took while on vacation (photo diary + Oahu Top 10 coming soon!)

Not only am I gearing up for a crazy busy fall at work, the travel doesn't seem like it will be letting up either! In a span of 10 days in September, I'll be hitting up Boston, Ottawa and Quebec City, with only one night in my own bed at home. Add in birthdays, trying to soak up the last of the warm weather at the cottage, and my best friend's engagement party and I don't know how I'm going to fit it all in. Thank god for lazy Sundays and September Issues!

Speaking of September issues, I'm starting to curate my fall wardrobe and deciding which pieces to purchase in the coming weeks (while still totally enjoying summer to its fullest!). I know 70s is a major trend this Fall...but I'm not quite sure it's for me. Even crop tops I got on board with eventually, but I'm having a hard time with the 70s. So to my fellow fashionistas out there, any advice for me?? You've got a sense of my style through this blog, so  I'm open to your suggestions ;)

And now, while I haven't been back in the real world very long, I have rounded up some fun links below:

I think we all secretly wish we were Parisian....but alas, that is not reality. French skincare secrets? Now that's something we actually can incorporate into our lives.

After about 30 seconds in Hawaii, I abandoned all makeup and thoughts of styling my hair. Wet hairstyles are now my jam!

For all my fellow Game of Thrones fans out there: if GoT was released in the 80s. Laughed so hard!

Refinery29 wrote an amazing piece on how fashion blogging has changed recently...perhaps for the worse. Let me know what you think about this one in the comments below, as I'd love to chat about this.

I have no idea what's going on over at DKNY, but I'm quite started by the fact that they've wiped their social media accounts. And now Aliza Licht is leaving. Good on Aliza for being so successful with her AMAZING book...and I think DKNY has made a really bad move.

What are you up to this weekend?

#WSS30DaysOfTravel - Travel Tips Vol. 5

4.8.15

Time to wrap up my #LLL30DaysOfTravel Instagram series! It's been so much fun sharing my best kept travel secrets with you, and thanks for adding your own variations in the comments!

1. I'm a big fan of travelling carry-on only, and to make sure I don't exceed my bag allowance, I put my tiny purse directly in my tote bag. 2 bags in 1!

2. Always have an in-flight entertainment back-up plan. You never know when the airplane's system will conk out, or if you'll have an unexpected delay. I usually have a couple magazines and a book tucked into my tote bag

3. Use a travel toothbrush holder to carry makeup brushes so the bristles don't get squished, and your makeup bag stays clean

4. Stuck on a long haul flight? Treat yourself to an in-flight facial! Trust me, your skin will thank you

5. Bringing a hat on your trip? Your best bet is to wear it on the plane (hence how I became known as Lady With Hat). If you must pack it, make sure to stuff the inside with clothing to help keep its shape!

6. My final, but probably most important, travel tip. Keep a journal while you travel. It may seem small, or silly to some, but I've learned the most about myself as a person while I've travelled. I want to remember the experiences and the thoughts I've had while on these trips. Trust me, it's fun to look back on

Safe Travels!

The Weekend Edit Vol. 52

2.8.15

Sorry that this edition of the Weekend Edit is getting up a bit late, but we spent a full day out on the lake in the sun today. So I think I'm forgiven. :P

Let's have some real talk for a moment, shall we? Do you ever find yourself obsessing over small, insignificant details? I think blogging can really be bad for fuelling this, as we obsess over getting that Instagram shot juuuuuust right (can you move that glass a smidge to the left? Nuh uh, back to the right...you know what I mean). Well, one of those things that I obsess over is the perfection of my planner. Yes, I'm still pretty attached to my paper planner despite this digital age, and I'm afraid to admit that I had a mini meltdown this week after an incident involving leaked salad dressing. To save you the details, basically my planner was ruined, and the pages were so stuck together and sticky that I couldn't even retrieve any data. Yeah, I had a meltdown. And I was really hung up about it until I realize, hey, this is really stupid, just get a new one. It wasn't my camera, it wasn't a pearl earring (yup, lost one of those before), it was just some paper. So I bought a new one.

In a way, it was kinda nice to be freaking out over something so silly, after the last several months of overtime, and micromanaging, and crazy workloads have finally settled, and it offered me a nice laugh in the end. We all have to laugh at ourselves sometimes.

Thanks for real talk guys. Work has been crazy up until the last 2 weeks or so, and I think this tiny, insignificant things pushed me over the edge...but in a totally good way. Has that ever happened to you?

With that I'm going to jump right into some links because, with a new planner and all, I've decided to try out the Bullet Journal system. Has anyone given it a go?

Carrie's outfit has be reliving the 90s in a totally good way. I have no idea how or where I'd wear this dino print jumpsuit, but I want!

Anna's vlogs are my absolute fave, and her LA one is adorable.

Joelle rocked an all black look this week that has me thinking she just walked off the Bad Blood set with ma gurl Taylor Swift.

Our Canadian dollar is awful right now, so contrary to my usual MO, I probably won't be doing any shopping while in the US next week...except perhaps a few naughty Sephora purchases. I've got my eye on the new Marc Jacobs Primer, and the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops.

And finally, to leave on a positive note, Gabriella has perfectly summed up one of the many reasons why I love blogging.

#WSS30DaysOfTravel - Travel Tips Vol. 4

1.8.15

The final countdown is on! Only a couple more days until I take off for Hawaii, and I've been having such a fun time with this Instagram series. It continues right up until Tuesday, and here is a round up of the last couple of days:

1. Fold vs. Roll. Fold delicate items like silk, linen, and blazers. Roll everything else to save space. Use fabric hair ties to keep stubborn items rolled up!

2. Pack your belt inside the collar of a shirt. Good use of packing space, while keeping your collars crisp!

3. I've featured this beaut in a couple of these travel tips posts, so I think it deserves its own. Use a travel wallet/pouch to keep all of your essentials in one place. My This Is Ground Mod Mobile carries my passport, notebook, phone, earbuds, pen, lip balm, business cards, + currency/cards. Easy to carry around the airport, and slip in the seat pocket in flight, so everything is within reach.

4. My main motto is to bring only as much jewelry that you can wear on the plane (and look normal). However, if I need to bring an extra something something for an event or night out, then I pack it inside a clutch so it's protected and safe.

5. I love taking photos while travelling, but I also like to blend in with the locals. To avoid standing out as a tourist, invest in a great day bag which is both stylish and doesn't pinpoint you as a target. I love my Ona Bags camera bag for sightseeing.

6. I don't have an international data plan, so I always look up where things are located before leaving on a trip. I'll make little routes on Google Maps on my phone and then take screenshots. This way, my own personalized maps are saved for offline use! (And of course, I always have a good old fashioned paper map on me).

OOTD - The Little White Dress

30.7.15

I tend to stay far, far away from white. I'm very accident prone, which is something that typically does bode well for a white outfit. But even so, I've been really hung up on trying to find the perfect LWD this summer. I wanted something really feminine, and not a sundress. When I spied this number over at Topshop, I knew it was the one. Keep reading for more photos!

Lipstick Files Vol. 3 - Summer Favourites

28.7.15

I mentioned in this post that I'm a big fan of bright lipstick, especially in the summer. But for the last couple of weeks, in the unbearable heat we've had, I just can't be bothered with maintaining a bright lip. So I've been gravitating towards light, effortless, peachy shades these days. Here's a look at the lip products currently hanging around at the bottom of my purse.

The Weekend Edit Vol. 51

26.7.15

What have you been up to this weekend?? It's currently raining at the cottage, which is not fun. It seems like we only ever get one good day out of two these days. Nevertheless, took advantage of the great weather yesterday to go sailing, swimming, and stay outside until it got dark. I feel like our sangria-filled summer days are coming to an end too quickly. Just this week, I got an email to shop the Madewell fall collection early...too soon Madewell, too soon :(.

At least I'm only just over a week away from vacation! While I'm not feeling totally burnt out at work anymore, more than a couple of days away are going to do me some good. Now I just have to get through the last of my deadlines. Eeeek. I literally spent all of last week on one single project, but it's so rewarding to see it shaping up into a finished proposal.

If it's nice outside, go enjoy the weather! If it's kinda meh like it is here, I've gathered some links to check out:

This blows my mind. This guy is flying all around the world for free. Read the full editorial here.

I've been eyeing this brooch for since it first came out. Now that it's on sale, the only thing holding me back is out ridiculously crappy Canadian dollar :(. The sale items at Lulu Frost are insanely beautiful right now.

Pixar is coming out with another movie this year! And it looks adorable. Bringing back childhood memories of Land Before Time.

I recently made a no-churn ice cream recipe for a work potluck, and now I'm hooked. Going to try this sea salt + honey recipe next!

While I think I'm pretty makeup savvy, I've definitely had my fair share of fail moments. #9 + #15 of this list definitely hit home haha

I found this article on Modular Dressing really interesting. I'd say I'm a combo of the Mix + Match (my travel wear) and the Outfits. How about you?

#WSS30DaysOfTravel - Travel Tips Vol. 3

25.7.15

Have you been following along with my Instagram series on travel tips? In case you've missed any, here is this week's round-up :)

1. When packing travel toiletries, try to find cream or solid-based alternatives. Solid perfume, cuticle "oil" stick, dry shampoo, powdered exfoliant, and a solid body butter that melts when you apply it.

2. Ditch the ziplock bag and invest in a quality toiletries bag that is TSA-approved! The rectangular shape + large zip opening my this Flight 001 bag makes it easier to fit in all those little tubes and bottles.

3. Pack a dryer sheet in your luggage to keep everything smelling fresh! Bonus points: gently rub over any clothing to remove static.

4. When packing a travel wardrobe, pick a neutral colour scheme so that you can mix and match. Add a pop piece with accessories or a statement piece of clothing!

5. Pack fabrics that are more resistant to wrinkles, such as wool + cashmere, lightweight knits, and my favourite, crepe.

6. If your clothes do get wrinkled, hang them in the bathroom and turn the shower on high heat for a couple of minutes. You can also make some DIY wrinkle releaser to keep in your luggage: 1 part water, 1 part vinegar, and 1 part fabric softener.

Less than 2 weeks to go until we take off for Hawaii!!

Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette

23.7.15

Just when you think there could be no other variation on neutral eyeshadow colors, Urban Decay manages to once again create a palette that gets the beauty community all in a state. I'll admit it outright, I totally got on board the gravy train with this one, and counted down the days until it's release. Now that I've had a fair chance to play around with it for a bit, I figured I'd share my thoughts. Is the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette overkill to the Naked line? Or does it actually have its place amongst its much loved sisters?

OOTD - Mesh Skirt + Lace-up Heels

21.7.15

While my style is mostly simple and classic, every now and then I like to throw in an edgy, out there piece. Just to throw people off. And also to push my own comfort zone... just a little. It's fun to conduct your own style experiments every now and then. Maybe you'll discover something about yourself that you didn't know before. Like how these heels make me feel like I can do anything! (totally wearing them to my next important meeting, haha). It may have taken me a while to get on board with the mesh skirt, but after wearing it out for drinks one night, I haven't looked back since! Keep reading for more photos and full outfit details!

The Weekend Edit Vol. 50

19.7.15

Hey there peoples of the internet! I hope your weekend is going much better than mine is. We're stuck in storm cell central out at the cottage, and it's pretty miserable. Oh well, I guess it was to be expected after the gorgeous weather we had all week.

It was a quiet week at work, and will be even quieter this week. I'm not complaining as it lets me catch up on all of the paperwork and little things that I've neglected over the past couple of months.

I also finished Girl On The Train yesterday, and it was great! I definitely recommend it if you're looking for something to add to your summer reading list. At first I thought it was too Gone Girl-esque, but as you get about halfway in, you really get into it, and the end just blew me away. Very clever writing!

While I go enjoy this break in the rain, here are some links I gathered up this week:

A fantastic editorial on Oskar Groening, who at the age of 94 was just sentenced to jail time for being Auschwitz's bookkeeper.

Really excited about Lena Dunham's new newsletter!

An adorable DIY for displaying jewelry. Maybe I'll go branch hunting in between the rain today.

Joelle is pretty much the only gal I know that could pull off booties and a scarf in the heat of summer. I loved this dress so much, I went out a got one for myself ;)

#WSS30DaysOfTravel - Travel Tips Vol. 2

18.7.15

Have you been following along with my #WSS30DaysOfTravel series on Instagram? In case you've missed any, here are all the travel tips from this week!

1. Grab the hotel's shower cap to put your shoes in so they don't dirty anything in your suitcase.

2. Always, always always pack a pen. I'm always the one whose pen is traveling halfway around the airplane as people fill out their customs cards.

3. Forgot to pack your charger? Plug your cable into the USB port on your hotel room's TV! Also, the front desk of major hotel chains usually have common chargers that they can loan you. Just to be safe, I always pack battery boosters (a mini one for a short trip, and my Photojojo Battery Buddy for anything over 48 hours).

4. Always pack fuzzy socks. Taking my shoes off and putting these on is always the first thing I do when getting onto a plane. They also act as my slippers in the hotel, and I can quickly slip them on when I have to take my shoes off to go through security.

5. Never pack a hairdryer or shampoo/conditioner. I have yet to stay at a hotel that has neither.

6. Wear shoes that are easy to slip in and out of at the airport. Nobody likes the person that holds up the security line trying to get their shoes off.

13.7.15

Ever have one of those days when you just can't be bothered to get out of bed, wear real clothes, or act like a human being? Sometimes known as Monday, but in reality it can hit any day of the week. Yeah, we all know those days. This outfit, it's perfect for those days. No fuss, super comfortable, but you still look put together. Keep reading for more photos and full outfit details!

The Weekend Edit Vol. 49

12.7.15

Happy weekend!! The above picture pretty much sums up the highlight of my week, and I've had nothing in my brain since (hehe, see what I did there? Yeah, I'm a loser) as I go through the required PTSD (Post-Taylor Swift Depression). Taylor put on such a great show, and I'd definitely go again and again if I could. My sister and I had VIP tickets with fantastic floor seats at the completely sold out Bell Center. The energy was insane! Did any readers hit up the Montreal show? Or have tickets in their city?

Ok, so since Taylor Swift is pretty much all I can think about for the moment, I'm going to jump right into this weeks link round-up:

This DIY tote bag is adorable! And it doesn't look too difficult either.

I've been looking for the perfect LWD all summer, and I think I've finally found it in this one.

I'm always trying to think of creative new ways to create more counter space for my kitchen, and these DIY burner covers look like a great idea!

Definitely going to try to make this hashbrown casserole next time I host brunch!

Another DIY (guess I've got the DIY itch again!) that I'm definitely going to make is this DIY hanging leather planter. So cute!

Love love love this collection of photographs of beauty in different cultures.
