Nudestix - Simple makeup for on to go

It's no secret that I'm a total beauty junkie. That being said, I'm always looking for new ways and innovative products to help me streamline my routine for when I travel. As a carry-on only enthusiast, the last thing I want to do is take up valuable real estate in my luggage with products I don't really need. Enter Nudestix: a brand focused on simple, easy makeup, all in pencil format. Keep reading for more photos!

The Weekend Edit Vol. 36

Guys, it isn't getting any warmer around these parts yet. In fact, "spring skiing" yesterday involved -10C with the wind chill and bundling up like it was January. At least it was sunny? I'm not convinced.

I was battling a cold at the beginning of last week, and even a spicy Laksa soup at Satay Brother couldn't help me fight off the sniffles. I eventually lost and succumbed to a couple days of hot water with lemon + honey, and copious amounts of nose blowing. Going to spend the rest of my weekend with giant mugs of tea and some fashion magazines. The bright side? It's only a 4 day work week next week because of Easter! Yay!

If you're being lazy like me today, here are come fun things to check out:

You can always count on Buzzfeed for a good laugh. Watch girls try out Kylie Jenner lips for the first time. The girl in the jean jacket with glasses is my fave.

Such a cute DIY for your sandals/heels for summer!

A little long, but well worth the read: All about procrastination (this perfectly describes me in college).

I'm a big fan of Tamira's blog Lipstick With Some Sunshine, and it recently got a makeover and a name change. Check out the new blog. Love it! And after watching her What's In My Bag Video, I want an Aesop party going on in my handbag too.

The Beauty Department has some great beauty tips for looking your best with a hangover. Get me this face gloss!

I've got a post coming up tomorrow all about Nudestix (sneak peek: they're amazing!), and they just released some "skincare" pencils. These look interesting!

Lipstick Files Vol. 2 // En Route Essentials - This Is Ground Mod Mobile

En Route Essentials - This is Ground Mod Mobile

Today's En Route Essential is my This is Ground Mod Mobile. A little bit more about my travel habits: I'm a very organized traveler. I think I get this from my mother, the passport nazi ("Give me your passports! I want to hold all the passports!"). I used to travel with a larger document holder, but recently I've started digitalizing all of my e-tickets, hotel confirmations, etc. prior to departure. So I've downsized to the Mod Mobile, and it's perfect! Keep reading for more photos!

Lipstick Files Vol. 2 (on the go!)

If you follow along with my adventures over on Instagram, then you'll know that I was in San Diego on business last week. For this edition of the Lipstick Files, I figured I'd show you which lip colours I brought along with me. A bright lipstick (or a neutral one for that matter) is a fashion accessory in my opinion, so I always like to have a couple options with me. Keep reading to see which shades I brought!

The Weekend Edit Vol. 35

It may officially be spring, but it certainly isn't looking like it here in Montreal. It snowed most of the day yesterday, and plunged to the minus twenties for today. Needless to say that it was quite a shock coming back from sunny California.

I was in San Diego for 48 hours (and way too much travel time) for some meetings, and it was really nice getting some sunshine. The highlights: cocktails by the Sea, the hot tub, and churros. This is my second meeting in San Diego, and they again served churros during the coffee breaks. It's awesome!

In other news, since Spring is officially here, I'm planning all sorts of fun spring-themed posts. I'm also really excited to start taking outfit photos again! I'm also really looking forward to a thaw, hopefully soon. Bring on the trenchcoats and bright rain boots!

Until then, here are some links from around the internet this week:

As someone with several tattoos herself, I loved this post on Emma's tattoos and when/why she got them.

If anyone can explain the importance of properly browning butter, it's Joy.

Joelle is totally ready for spring with this awesome mix of feminine floral + chic leather (and of course, her gorgeous Pashli)

I just made my first purchase from Lulu Frost (and am in total love), so it was exciting to see that Atlantic-Pacific is their spring influencer. I love all her choices.

Caroline unveiled her Spring capsule wardrobe last week, and it's adorable. It's making me want to dabble in capsule wardrobes again beyond just those that I curate for travel.

Beauty Bits Vol. 6 // Women in Clothes: Let's talk clothes // Marc Jacobs Beauty Spring 2015

What have you been up to this past week? Excited for spring?

- Kris

Marc Jacobs Beauty Spring 2015

Certain beauty launches excited me, and others don't. One brand that has consistently gotten me checking in at Sephora after work every day, waiting for the shelves to be stocked with the new release, is Marc Jacobs Beauty. Yes, there have been some hits as well as some misses with the brand, but nonetheless, they know how to keep you intrigued. Marc Jacobs Beauty has some some exciting new launches for spring, so keep reading to check them out!

Women in Clothes: Let's talk clothes

I just finished (ok, let's be real, I've almost finished) a major spring cleaning and purge in my little loft. I went through everything. And included in that was going through my closet with a fine-toothed comb. I got rid of a ton of clothes (check out this post on how I go through my closet, usually twice a year), and was even more brutal than I normally am. I came to realize just how much I actually had in my closet, and how little I actually wear.

I went through a major style change when I started working full time just over 3 years ago. 1) I now needed a professional wardrobe, and 2) I now had the income to fill my closet with beautiful, quality pieces that would last, instead of cheap, fast fashion. I'm slowly curating a beautiful wardrobe that I love every single piece of.

Going through this brought me back to a book I read in the fall: Women in Clothes. It's most definitely not your typical fashion-related book, and I highly recommend you check it out ASAP (especially if you're a fashion blogger). The author surveyed hundreds of women about how they feel about their clothes, and most of the questions aren't typical or what you'd expect. Today, I'm going to go through their 20 most popular questions, and you can answer them too right over here!

1. When do you feel at your most attractive?
When I'm having a good skin day, and when I'm dressed in a chic outfit (preferably parisienne chic!). Also, when I'm wearing high heels!

2. Do you notice women on the street? If so, what sort of women do you tend to notice or admire?
Of course! I notice impeccably dressed women who exude confidence.

3. What are some things you admire about how other some present themselves?
Attention to detail. You can tell when someone put effort into curating their outfit, but make it look just thrown together.

4. Was there a moment in your life when something "clicked" for you about fashion or dressing or makeup or hair? What? Why did it happen then do you think?
At some point, I can't remember when, someone pointed out to me that I have the body type where absolutely everything looks good on me. It was all downhill from there! Also, I apparently have a "hat head"...I guess that explains why I have so many hats.

5. What are some shopping rules that you follow that you wouldn't necessarily recommend to others but which you follow yourself?
Getting sucked into online shopping. I find then when I go to a store I rule out a lot of items after trying them on, but tend to keep everything I order online. Also, don't go shopping alone. It's always good to run something by someone else first. Especially when you're on the fence about an item.

6. What are some rules about dressing that you follow that you wouldn't necessarily recommend to others?
If you can't decide what to wear that day, just keep wearing that same outfit that you always put on every time you can't decide what to wear. Take 5 minutes before bed to think about what you'll wear tomorrow.

7. What is the most transformative conversation you've ever had on the subject of fashion or style?
Probably a conversation about why we fashion blog with Joelle from La Petite Noob.

8. Do you have a unified way of approaching your life, work, relationships, finances, chores, etc.? Please explain.
Absolutely not. I am extremely focused at work, and totally not at home.

9. Are there any clothing (or related items) that you have in multiple? Why do you keep buying this thing?
Striped shirts and black jeans. The two on their own make a fantastic outfit! They are such staple, basic pieces that can form the foundation for any great outfit. I also own way too many lipsticks. They're my version of an accessory.

10. Have you ever successfully given someone a present of jewelry or clothing that you continue to feel good about?
Jewelry and clothing are very hard to gift to someone else as they are personal. Jewelry especially. Unless someone has explicitly pointed something out, then I tend to avoid those gifts.

11. Is there any fashion trend you've refused to participate in and why?
I'm pretty open to trying most trends. The crop top is something I've managed to stay away from for a long time...but I finally caved this season.

12. Can you say a bit about how your mother's body and style has been passed down to you or not?
My mum and I share the same shoe size, which has been dangerous for her as I'm constantly raiding her closet. When I first started to develop a sense of style (when I started working), I would borrow inspiration from my working mother. So I think she has helped shape my style. In a good way. Give us the same magazine and we'll probably fold the same pages over.

13. Have you stolen, borrowed, or adapted any dressing ideas from friends and family?
I think my grandmother is still one of my most influential style icons. I wouldn't say I've completely stolen a look/idea, but the general theme of chic and classy.

14. Was there a point in your life when your style changed dramatically? What happened?
It's hard to pinpoint an exact moment in time for this one, as I think it was gradual. Although I recall being in university wearing Lululemon leggings and a hoodie everyday...that seems so long ago now!

15. Is there anything political about the way you dress?
I don't think so, no.

16. Please describe your body.
Short and thin, with a tiny waist. Apparently anything looks good on me.

17. Please describe your mind.
Always working.

18. Please describe your emotions.
Extremes. Not in a manic, crazy way. But passionate? Yeah, let's go with that.

19. What are you wearing on your body and face, and how is your hair done right at this moment?
Black jeans and a grey, cashmere pullover. Flawless foundation and perfect brows, with a generous helping of mascara. I've got second day hair, so it's in a messy bun.

20. In what way is this stuff important, if at all?
I think a sense of style can completely change a person's attitude. I know that an impeccable outfit can give me confidence. But mostly, I dress nicely for myself, and I wear what I want to wear, and not what others expect me too. I think one of the best compliments I've received is from a guy at work who doesn't really know me. He stopped me one day and said "I love your style. Your outfits always have just that one thing that makes them eclectic. I bet that's why everyone listens to you."

I'd love if answered some of these questions too! Link them up in the comments below!

Beauty Bits Vol. 6

Time for another round of monthly beauty buys with this month's Beauty Bits. We've got some colour, and some more nourishing products, so keep reading to see what I think!

The Weekend Edit Vol. 34

Where have I been? Good question...where have I been? Life has gotten in the way of blogging for the last couple of weeks, but I think I'm over the hurdle now! I always love it when work keeps me busy and challenges me...but after a while, I do need a break. I've also been in full on spring cleaning mode, which hasn't helped much. My place has looked like a bomb went off in it ever since I got back from Toronto. But after some furniture re-arranging, and a trip to IKEA, it's looking good! I'm hoping to share a little home tour with you guys soon, I just have one small "project" left to complete.

I'm going to get back to my cleaning now, but if you're just chilling out on this (wintery, if you're in Montreal) Sunday, here are some cool links to check out:

I was so surprised to be featured on Joelle's blog this week in her first blogger round-up! Thanks Joelle! She really is the best, and if you don't follow her yet, then check her out!

I can't wait to try making this recipe. Bacon jam?? Sign me up!

After taking a bit of a blogging break, now is the perfect time to do a little work on the blog. I'm going to go through Jenny Purr's 15 day content challenge.

This video depicting historically accurate Disney Princesses is quite beautiful.

Loving these 4 on-trend beauty looks, especially the bordeaux manicure and the "I woke up like this" look.

And in case you missed it, I posted a rave review of Bite Beauty's new Butter Cream Lipstick! Check it out here.

What are you up to this weekend?

Bite Beauty Butter Cream Lipstick

Bite Beauty is a brand that is constantly releasing innovative, new products. I own way too many several products (and have expressed my love for the brand here, and here) and so I was super excited about their new Butter Cream Lipsticks. The "hand cut" technique sounded a bit gimmicky, but I bit the bullet (no pun intended) anyways and decided to purchase one to try out. Keep reading to hear what I think!

The Weekend Edit Vol. 33

It's my birthday weekend! Yay! I had a lovely time skiing with family and friends out at the cottage yesterday, and had the most amazing brunch with my friend Angela this morning. It's a big one this year, turning a quarter of a century old, but everything was really low key which was nice. While I don't feel any older, saying I'm 25 makes me feel old haha. The celebrations continue this week, and I'm excited to catch up with all of my friends after a very busy month.

Here are some things I found on the internet this week:

Who What Wear did a great piece on how style blogs have changed.

I'm totally crushing over this dress from J. Crew at the moment. I might just have to place an order.

Gal Meets Glam is one of my favourite fashion blogs, and this post from her husband made me chuckle.

It doesn't get any better than Taylor and Karlie (they're adorable), and I love that Karlie is going to university starting this fall! You go girl!

Emma Stone is one of my fave style icons, and her makeup look from the Oscars was on point. Elle gives us the scoop on how to recreate it.

And in case you missed anything on Love. Loft. Life. this week:
Cleared for Takeoff with Ariane

Hope you're having a lovely weekend!
