Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette

23.7.15

Just when you think there could be no other variation on neutral eyeshadow colors, Urban Decay manages to once again create a palette that gets the beauty community all in a state. I'll admit it outright, I totally got on board the gravy train with this one, and counted down the days until it's release. Now that I've had a fair chance to play around with it for a bit, I figured I'd share my thoughts. Is the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette overkill to the Naked line? Or does it actually have its place amongst its much loved sisters?

My love for the Urban Decay Naked palettes run deep. My mum has the original Naked Palette, I own both Naked Basics (seen here), as well as Naked 3. So did I really need to add another neutral palette to my stash? Probably not....but it's oh so beautiful!

Many brands have released "smoky eye" palettes in the past, mostly consisting of multiple variations of black. So the first thing I LOVE about this palette is that there is a really nice gradient from light shades to dark, and a nice variation between grey, dark blue, and plum-toned dark colours. An all black smoky eye is not my cuppa tea, but a sultry plum look is something I can definitely get on board with.

The inclusion of a whopping 4 matte colors is also really lovely! I think the amount of glitter and shimmer shades in previous Naked palettes was a major complaint, so I'm glad to see that UD have listened to their fans.

Finally, the brush included with this palette is probably one of the best parts. Yes, it is perfectly suited for creating a smoky eye (duh), but it's also just an overall fab brush. The pencil brush end is great for precisely carving out a crease, while the other end is dense enough to pick of the perfect amount of color yet fluffy enough to blend out all harsh line. I've already removed the brush from the palette and just added it directly to my daily rotation.

So will I be sporting a smoky eye to work every day now? Definitely not; however, this palette is versatile enough that you can actually create some really lovely day looks too. Kudos to Urban Decay!

Will you be checking out the new Smoky Palette? Already got it? What are your thoughts?
