Facial Sunscreens: The best options for both summer & travel

Whether you're planning on relaxing by your own pool, spending weekends on the lake, or taking your summer vacation in a tropical destination, sun safety is important regardless of the location. I broke down some essential sun safety tips last summer, and today I wanted to share my favourite facial sunscreens for both spending time outdoors in the summer & for travel!

I happened upon the Kiehl's SuperFluid UV Mineral Defense completely by accident. Call it serendipity, but as a huge fan of the original SuperFluid, I decided to try the new mineral version when I was in Kiehl's back in the spring, and was devastated when I got home and found out it was tinted. Luckily, I decided to give it a try anyway, and I absolutely love it. The tint is subtle enough that it's barely there, and creates a "my skin but better"  flawless look (I have yet to find something this lightweight and with the "my skin but better" look in an actual foundation or tinted moisturizer), but still boasts an SPF of 50 and is waterproof. Check, check, check! This is a great option for travel to a hot, urban destination, as it acts as both SPF and coverage in one.

My favourite high intensity sunscreen is the Shiseido Wetforce For Face, as this stuff does. not. budge. There's no getting away from that white cast when it comes to heavy duty, physical sunscreens, but when you're going to be spending a day out on the water or in the ocean, that's actually what you want!

Finally, two new favourites for every day wear in the summer, be it for an afternoon along the canal, or having dinner by my rooftop pool, are the offerings from CyberDerm. This company was founded by two Canadian dermatologists, with am emphasis on the ingredients and how they will interact with your skin. They use zinc oxide as their UV blocking agent, which is a physical sunscreen that blocks both UVA & UVB rays. Both the Every Morning Sun Whip & the Simply Zinc Sun Whip feel great on the skin, and don't leave me with that sticky, sunscreen feeling. The Every Morning Sun Whip is a great combo SPF and moisturizer that works well on my oily skin, and the Simply Zinc Sun Whip also provides anti-aging benefits as well. Two great options for every day sun protection in the summer.

Another reason why I love all of these sunscreens? They all come in compact packaging that's easy to pack for travel, and meet requirements for carry-on fluids! Also, bonus points to Kiehl's and CyberDerm for creating SPF products that do double duty as either tint or skincare, which makes them even better options for travel.

What are your favourite facial sunscreens? I used to loathe applying sunscreen to my face, but with advancements in skincare ingredients, it's not so bad these days!

*CyberDerm kindly provided me with the Every Morning Sun Whip & the Simply Zinc Sub Whip to try out. All opinions are 100% my own, and there was no obligation to feature them in a post.

    1. I'll definitely have to check it out Colleen!

  5. Yes! I'm loving the Kiehl's mineral sunscreen, too! I don't find the tint to really do too much. They told me it was just added to balance out the minerals from making the face look too light. Works for me!
